A broad-spectrum contact herbicide, a phosphonic acid herbicide, which is a glutamine synthesis inhibitor. The pure product of  oxalammonium is a crystalline solid with a melting point of 215ºC, and has the characteristics of weak pungent odor and low toxicity. After the use of glyphosate on plants, the ammonium metabolism in plants is disrupted, the cellular agent ammonium ion accumulates in the plants, and photosynthesis is seriously inhibited, so as to achieve the purpose of weed control.
Glyphosate is mainly used in non-cultivated land, papaya garden, rubber garden, tea orchard, vegetable field, etc. It has good control effect on annual and perennial grasses, broad-leaved weeds and sedges, such as rat-tail grass, matang, paspalum, setaria, wild wheat and so on.

 

Action mechanism When sprayed on plants, oxalammonium can be quickly absorbed into the body through stems and leaves, and is conducted in the xylem by plant transpiration. However, after contact with the soil, it will be rapidly decomposed by microorganisms in the soil and become ineffective, so the roots have little or no absorption of  oxalammonium.
Oxalammonium is related to glutamine synthetase, which catalyzes the synthesis of glutamate and ammonium ions into glutamine during nitrogen metabolism in plants. When oxalammonium enters the plant body, it can combine with ATP and occupy the reaction site of glutamine synthetase, thus irreversibly inhibiting the activity of glutamine synthetase and destroying a series of metabolic processes.
When glutamine synthetase is inhibited, the synthesis of glutamine is blocked, and then the nitrogen metabolism in plants is disturbed, the synthesis of proteins and nucleotides and other substances is reduced, photosynthesis is blocked, and chlorophyll synthesis is reduced. At the same time, the content of ammonium ion in the cell increased, resulting in the destruction of the cell membrane and the disintegration of chloroplasts. Eventually the whole plant dies.
The speed of killing grass is fast, the photosynthesis of the treated weeds begins to be blocked within 2~6 hours, the growth stops within 1 day, the symptoms of greening and necrosis appear in 2~3 days, and the whole plant dies within 1~2 weeks. At the same time, the effect of  oxalammonium can last 25 to 45 days, and the control time is longer than other herbicides.
Environmental impact 1. Degradation and residue
Oxalammonium rapidly fails in soil through microbial degradation, producing 3-(methylphosphate)  (MPP) and 2-(methylphosphate) acetic acid (MPA) and releasing carbon dioxide. Leaching in most soils is less than 15 cm, and soil available water content and soil oxygen content have a certain effect on the adsorption and degradation of  oxalate. The degradation half-life of oxalammonium is 4~10 days.
2. Impact on soil
Oxalammonium can have a certain effect on some microorganisms in soil. The effects of different concentrations (0, 2, 4, 6, 8L/hm) on the number of soil microorganisms (bacteria, actinomyces, fungi) and the activities of soil enzymes (catalase, phosphatase, urease, dehydrogenase) in wheat fields increased first and then decreased. When the dosage of oxalammonium was 6L/hm, the total number of microorganisms reached the highest. The number of bacteria and actinomycetes increased, while the number of fungi did not change significantly. Under low concentrations (2, 4 and 6L/hm) of oxalate, soil enzyme activities increased with the increase of oxalate dosage, but under high concentrations (8L/hm) of oxalate, soil enzyme activities were inhibited.
3. Impact on water environment
Due to its excellent solubility in water, slow hydrolysis and photolysis processes in the water environment, and easy flow and transfer in environmental media, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has classified it as a mobile persistent pollutant. The results of acute toxicity test of aquatic organisms showed that the half effective concentration (EC50) or half lethal concentration (LC50) of oxalammonium to Chlorella, Daphnia macrocephalus and zebrafish were more than 100mg/L, which belonged to low toxicity compound. Therefore, in the short term, oxalate does not have a significant impact on the balance of aquatic ecosystem, and the long-term existence of oxalate in water on the reproduction of aquatic organisms and offspring growth needs further study.
4. Animal toxicity
Oxalammonium is less toxic to organisms other than plants and has high safety. Oxalammonium is rarely absorbed in animals and can be quickly cleared. Oxalammonium can also inhibit glutamine synthetase when introduced into animals, but does not show strong symptoms at low doses. However, if large doses of oxalate are taken, the brain glutamine synthetase will be more inhibited, and the main symptoms of poisoning are mainly nervous system: drowsiness, abnormal posture, erect body hair, irritability, tremor, convulsion, epilepsy, salivating, ataxia, etc.
Application Glyphosate has a wide spectrum of herbicides and has a good control effect on almost most annual and even perennial weeds in farmland. It can be used to control annual and perennial dicotyledonous and grass weeds in orchards, vineyards, potato fields and non-cultivated fields, such as rat-tail, matamia, barnyard, wild barley, multi-flower ryegrass, setaria, golden setaria, wild wheat, wild corn, duck bud, curvilinear hair grass, fescue, etc. It can also prevent broad-leaved weeds such as pigweed, amaranth, polygonum, mustard, nightshade, chickweed, purslane, pigweed, chicory, field thistle, field convolvula, dandelion, etc. It also has a certain effect on sedges and ferns.
